There is also a personal reason this particular recording has a special place at FishWorship. It has been our founder’s favorite version of “All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name” ever since he first heard it playing over the ceiling speakers of a Christian bookstore shortly after the Avalon recording was released. Sometimes a song becomes memorable not simply because of the recording itself, but because of where we were and what we were doing when we first heard it. This Avalon performance has remained one of those songs for the FishWorship founder — a version that has continued to stand out all these years later.

That personal connection is also part of what we love about hymns. Christian music can meet us in very different places and at very different points in our lives, but a great hymn has a way of remaining with us. “All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name” has been sung in churches for generations, yet its message has never become outdated. Whether heard in a traditional church service, a Christian bookstore, a contemporary worship setting, or through a recording like Avalon’s, the declaration remains the same: all hail the power of Jesus’ name.

That is why this hymn belongs in the FishWorship Hymn of the Week series. And in this case, Avalon gives us a particularly memorable way to hear that message again.

There are some days you remember because they were happy. There are others you remember because something happened that changed your life. And then there are days that you remember because they changed the world.

September 11, 2001, was one of those days. And now, 25 years later, September 11, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of that terrible morning.

My wife and I were living in the suburbs south of Atlanta at the time. I was working in IT for a luxury homebuilder in Atlanta, and it was a normal Tuesday morning at work. At least, it was normal until I received an email from my wife, sometime just before 9:00 that morning.

An airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center.

There wasn’t much information yet. We didn’t know what had happened or why. Like many people, I assumed it might have been some kind of terrible accident involving a small or private aircraft.

A few minutes later, my wife called me.

A second plane had hit the other tower.

I can still remember the tone of that phone conversation. Neither of us needed to say very much. Somehow, in those few moments, we both knew that the world was changing.

After that call, I walked around our office as the news continued to trickle in. Before long, the events in New York were all anyone was talking about. At one point, an Army combat veteran who worked in our department told us that someone had just told him a plane had hit the Pentagon.

Then came word that one of the towers had collapsed.

About a half hour later, we heard that another plane had crashed in Pennsylvania.

Then we learned that the second tower had collapsed.

The information kept coming, and each new piece of information seemed more unbelievable than the one before it.

At 11:00 that morning, I told my supervisor I was going to take an early lunch. At the time, my job allowed me to work half a day in the office and half a day at home, and I frequently took an early lunch and then finished the day from home.

I left the office and drove to Peachtree City, where my wife worked. We met at a Chinese restaurant where we frequently had lunch.

The drive there was when I first heard more of the details about Flight 93, the United Airlines flight that had crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

By the time my wife and I sat down for lunch, the entire atmosphere was different.

The restaurant was full of people, but it was strangely quiet.

People were eating their meals, but very few were talking. Most of us were simply sitting there, processing what had happened that morning.

It was as though everyone in that restaurant understood that we had just witnessed something enormous and terrible together.

We were still trying to comprehend it.

In the days that followed, as devastating as September 11 had been, I also remember seeing some things that gave me hope.

I remember our president calling Americans to prayer and encouraging people to attend their houses of worship. At a moment when our nation was frightened and grieving, there was an unmistakable recognition that this was a time when people needed to turn to God.

I remember the patriotism that swept across America.

Flags seemed to be everywhere. People displayed the American flag on their homes, their cars and their businesses. Americans who might otherwise have had very little in common suddenly stood together as Americans.

And I remember the heroes.

In New York City, countless people demonstrated extraordinary courage and selflessness. Firefighters, police officers, emergency workers, military personnel and ordinary citizens put themselves in danger to help other people.

The same spirit was evident at the Pentagon, where people responded to the disaster by helping one another, regardless of rank or position. Some of our nation’s highest-ranking military leaders found themselves acting as first responders in the middle of the crisis.

That kind of courage says something about the character of a person.

September 11 showed us some of the very best of America in the middle of one of the darkest moments in our history.

It also reminded us that patriotism isn’t simply about waving a flag when things are going well. It is about remembering the people who sacrificed for the country we share, respecting the freedoms we have been given, and standing together when circumstances become difficult.

What happened on September 11 should never become just another date on the calendar.

We should remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives. We should remember their families. We should remember the first responders who ran toward danger while everyone else was trying to escape it. We should remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who fought back against the hijackers. And we should remember the countless people whose lives were permanently changed that day.

But I also think we should remember what happened afterward.

For a brief period, Americans remembered how much we had in common.

We remembered our neighbors.

We remembered our heroes.

We remembered our faith.

We remembered our flag.

And we remembered that being an American was something worth being proud of.

I hope we never need another September 11 to remind us of those things.

When I think about patriotic music, there are few songs that have become more closely associated with American pride than “God Bless the USA.”

And Jodi Essex does an amazing job bringing that message home.

So as we remember September 11, let’s remember the lives that were lost, honor those who gave everything to help others, thank God for those who demonstrated extraordinary courage, and remember the country that came together in the aftermath.

Let’s stand up.

Let’s honor our flag.

Let’s celebrate our country.

And let’s be proud to be Americans.

“Crown Him With Many Crowns” is a hymn with a history nearly as rich as its message. Matthew Bridges wrote the original six-stanza hymn in 1851, drawing heavily on the imagery of Revelation 19:12, which describes Christ with “many crowns.” Godfrey Thring later wrote a new set of verses, first published in 1874, and over the years the two versions were combined and adapted into the form of the hymn that is most familiar today. The magnificent tune, “Diademata,” was composed by George Job Elvey in 1868, giving the words a majestic musical setting that has helped make this hymn a favorite for generations.

What makes “Crown Him With Many Crowns” so powerful is the way it presents a succession of pictures of who Jesus is. He is the Lamb upon the throne, the Lord of life, the Lord of love, the Lord of peace, and the Lord of years. Each “crown” becomes another reason to worship Him—not simply because He reigns, but because of what He has done for us. The hymn moves from Christ’s incarnation and sacrificial death to His resurrection, eternal reign, and ultimate victory. It is both an affirmation of who Christ is and a personal invitation to “awake” our souls and praise Him.

And then there is the Fountainview Academy presentation. Their performance brings this centuries-old message of worship into a setting that feels remarkably alive. Fountainview Academy has a wonderful tradition of taking its orchestra and singers outside the concert hall and into beautiful locations, allowing the surrounding scenery to become part of the presentation. Their “Crown Him With Many Crowns” performance was filmed as part of their God So Loved the World project, and the combination of the young musicians, the orchestra, the voices, and the spectacular setting makes the performance feel less like simply watching a hymn being performed and more like joining in its declaration of praise.

There is something especially fitting about hearing young people sing a hymn that has been proclaiming the kingship of Christ for more than 175 years. The words may be centuries old, but the message is anything but old-fashioned: Jesus is still the Lamb, still the Redeemer, still the Lord of life and love, and still worthy of every crown we can offer Him. As you watch Fountainview Academy’s beautiful on-location performance, take a moment to let the words sink in—and then, as the hymn invites us to do, awake your soul and sing.

There are some artists whose passing feels like the loss of a musician. And then there are those whose passing feels like the loss of someone who had simply always been there.

For generations of Americans, Dolly Parton was one of those people.

On August 25, 2026, Dolly Parton died in Nashville at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. The news was met with an extraordinary outpouring of grief from across the world. Country music mourned. Hollywood mourned. Nashville mourned. And people who had never considered themselves country music fans found themselves grieving, too. Dolly had somehow become much more than a singer. She was part of the American story.

For those of us who live in Tennessee, there is something particularly difficult about imagining the state without Dolly in it.

She came from the mountains of East Tennessee, one of twelve children raised in a family with very little money but a great deal of music. She learned early that a song could tell a story, carry a memory, express a prayer, or simply help somebody make it through another day. Eventually, the little girl who grew up in a house without electricity would become one of the most successful and recognizable entertainers the world has ever known.

But the numbers don’t really explain Dolly Parton.

The awards don’t explain her.

The wigs, the rhinestones, the television appearances, the movies, the theme park, the hundreds of songs, the business ventures, the countless honors — none of those things quite explain why so many people feel as though they have lost somebody they knew.

Maybe it’s because Dolly always seemed to understand something about ordinary people.

She wrote about working people and lonely people. She wrote about mothers and daughters, heartbreak and hope, poverty and ambition, home and leaving home. She could make the world laugh at her one minute and then quietly break your heart with a song the next.

And underneath so much of it was faith.

For Dolly Parton, faith was never something separate from her music. It was part of the musical world she grew up in, part of the stories she told, and part of the way she understood her own life. Gospel music was woven into her Tennessee upbringing, and Christian themes remained a recurring thread throughout her songwriting and recording career.

That makes one particular song especially appropriate for FishWorship to revisit this week.

In 2019, Christian artist Zach Williams released “There Was Jesus,” a song built around the realization that God was present even during the seasons when His presence wasn’t obvious. The song looks backward over difficult moments and sees them differently in retrospect.

And then Dolly Parton joined him.

The collaboration could easily have been nothing more than an impressive pairing of two familiar voices. It wasn’t.

Dolly’s voice brings something deeply human to the song. There is history in it. There is tenderness in it. There is a sense that the words aren’t being performed simply because they are on a page, but because they mean something.

And perhaps that’s why the song feels particularly poignant now.

We spend our lives moving through moments we don’t understand. We lose people. We experience disappointment. We face illness, uncertainty, fear, and grief. Sometimes we look back years later and realize that God was present in places where we couldn’t see Him at the time.

There was Jesus.

There was Jesus in the joy.

There was Jesus in the sorrow.

There was Jesus in the moments we understood — and in the moments we didn’t.

For Christians, that isn’t just a comforting sentiment. It’s a promise.

And this week, as the world remembers Dolly Parton, it seems especially appropriate to remember her through a song that allows us to hear her voice speaking directly into that promise.

Dolly’s earthly story is finished. Her music isn’t. The songs she wrote will continue to be sung. The people she encouraged will continue to tell their stories. The books distributed through her Imagination Library will continue reaching children. The places she helped build will continue welcoming families. And the countless artists she influenced will continue carrying pieces of her musical DNA into the future.

Even Dollywood, the place she called a dream brought to life, is choosing to honor her wishes by remaining a place of joy, hope, music, laughter, and togetherness. That’s a fitting tribute to a woman whose public life was so often characterized by generosity and optimism.

But for FishWorship, there is another legacy worth remembering.

Dolly Parton understood that a song could do more than entertain.

A song could tell the truth.

A song could remind somebody that they weren’t alone.

A song could make somebody cry, laugh, remember home, or perhaps even look toward heaven.

And sometimes, a song could simply remind us of something we already knew but had temporarily forgotten:

There was Jesus.

So this week, as we say goodbye to Dolly Parton, we’re going to do something a little different at FishWorship.

We’re going to let Dolly sing.

And while you listen, perhaps don’t think first about the celebrity.

Think about the little girl from the Tennessee mountains.

Think about the woman who spent a lifetime turning stories into songs.

Think about the millions of people who found a little hope, a little laughter, or a little courage in something she created.

And then listen to the words.

Because even in a week when we’re mourning the loss of someone who seemed almost larger than life, the message of this song remains remarkably simple:

There was Jesus.

I’m far from being a stranger to the Gaither machine — what else can you call it? The Bill Gaither Trio, the Gaither Vocal Band, countless Homecoming concerts featuring scores of the most notable musicians in all of Southern Gospel music. Over the years, I’ve had several friends who have performed with them, and some of my friends actually grew up under the Gaither umbrella. I am always happy to share meaningful, entertaining, or simply interesting moments from the vast Gaither past, and today’s Monday Memory is certainly one of those moments.

This song in particular showcases Christian comedian Mark Lowry at his best. Mark is joined by many Gaither notables, including David Phelps, Guy Penrod, Bill Gaither, and a host of other familiar faces who seem to have just as much fun with the production as Mark does. There is something wonderfully over-the-top about watching so many talented musicians and performers come together for a song that is, at its heart, simply a whole lot of fun. I truly hope each of you enjoy watching this video as much as I have enjoyed sharing it.

And then there is the video itself. This isn’t simply a performance captured on a stage — it is a full-blown production, complete with costumes, characters, choreography, comedy, and the kind of attention to detail that has long been part of the Gaither Homecoming world. Watching the various personalities appear throughout the video makes it almost as much fun to see who is going to show up as it is to hear the song itself. It is a wonderful example of the creativity and camaraderie that can happen when a group of exceptionally talented people decides to have a little fun together. So thank you to Bill Gaither, Mark Lowry, and everyone who helped bring this memorable production to life.
